Only the Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies, established in 1995, is a standalone institute located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This institution is AICTE-approved and imparts postgraduate management education. It offers a two-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) program. The institute has 6 faculty members, and at present, it has 86 postgraduate students, out of which there are 63% male and 37% female students. The institute's commitment towards quality education is reflected through 100% enrollment of students from within the state that builds a strong local connection.

AIMS has a variety of facilities to back its academic environment. The institute's library is a knowledge hub with more than 4,000 books having 1,800 titles and 2,200 volumes, backed by 60 national and international professional journals and magazines. AIMS has set up an Information Technology Centre with latest software and internet-enabled systems for technology-driven learning. The institute offers sports facilities to foster physical activities and team spirit among students. 

The flagship programme of the institute is the PGDM course, which has an intake of 54 students yearly. It is a full-time, two-year course that aims to equip students with the skills necessary to face the dynamic world of management. AIMS accepts scores of various management entrance exams like MAT and ATMA, hence ensuring a competitive selection process. This course is further supplemented by practical exposure in the well-equipped IT center, where the students are trained in some of the essential software and programming languages relevant for modern business management.

The admission process at AIMS is comprehensive to select the most promising candidates. Prospective students have to apply within the stipulated timeframe. Selection is based on the scores of some recognized entrance exams like MAT, ATMA, or ICET (for Andhra Pradesh state). The shortlisted candidates have to come for a Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI), which are vital components of final selection.  Its Alumni Association is actively participating in curriculum development and placement activities, bringing industry insights and networking opportunities for the current student body.
