The University of Mysore set up the Department of Studies in Business Administration in 2002 as "B.N. Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences,” situated on the northern edge of "Manasagangothri." This recognised centre which has been accredited by All India Council for Technical Education, has establishment itself as a leading B-School. Currently, the institute has a faculty comprises of 28 dedicated professionals, which foster a favourable environment for managerial training. BIMS currently offers two specialised programmes: graduate level MBA and a Ph.D. in Business Administration that admissions are offered at postgraduate and doctoral levels education.

The BN Bahadur Institute of Management Science has numerous facilities that are suited to be modern learning facilities of the institute’s students. The central component of BIMS is its equipped with books, journals, CDs, and softwares Library which consists of 10299 bound volumes of books and Magazine and journals 22 subscribed, thus, making it a veritable knowledge centre for all management professionals. In a show of embracing technology the institute has fitted a computer laboratory, with 54 computer systems to ensure the students future stays current with the advancement in information technology. The facilities of the 200 seat auditorium include seminar conference and guest lecture purposes with regular cultural activities for a good campus community life. 

 The MBA has an approved intake capacity of 180 and is evidence of the programme’s success together with the expectations that the manager of the future have placed in the institute. Unlike other programmes, this one covers a span of two years and is aimed at producing highly qualified and adequately prepared business persons to fit the corporate world. For the scholars with research and academic bent of mind, BIMS have full time Ph.D. programme in Business Administration, which takes six years to complete. The objective of this doctoral programme is to produce the next generation of management researchers and educators to support the advancement of knowledge.

The admission process at BIMS is strictly on merit hence only the best students make it through the doors of the institution. For MBA programme the admission is through Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (Karnataka PGCET) conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). This paper based, worldwide exam evaluates the candidate’s potential in management courses and is a mandatory step in the process. The Entrance Examination held by the University of Mysore has to be passed for all those who want to become the candidates for the doctoral degree.
