Darshan Singh Smrati Mahavidyalaya is an affiliated college established in 2003 at Kanpur. It is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and provides eight full-time courses in different disciplines. The college is affiliated with CSJMU Kanpur. The college currently has a total student population of 2686 and a faculty of 58, allowing for a more individualised educational experience. 

Darshan Singh Smrati Mahavidyalaya has infrastructural facilities that facilitate learning among the students. A modern and well-stocked library is considered the academic resource centre. To support practical cases, the institution undertakes the provision of laboratories. It has sports facilities for exercise and to improve the health and fitness of students. An auditorium is used in conducting events and seminars, and a health centre consists of a first aid station for the students. Darshan Singh Smrati Mahavidyalaya has a cafeteria for staff and students. The institution has separate boys' and girls' hostels. It also has a waiting or guest room facility for visiting faculty and students' family members.

The entire course is covered in eight programmes offered by Darshan Singh Smrati Mahavidyalaya. These include B.Sc., BA, B.Ed., D.El.Ed, MA English Literature, MA Education, M.Sc Chemistry and M.Sc Mathematics. 

Admission to Darshan Singh Smrati Mahavidyalaya programmes mainly depends on merit. Besides the marks obtained in the qualifying examination, the college may take an additional written test as per the rules of the university to which the college is affiliated. This approach enables some deserving candidates to be given various programmes.

For most undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the eligibility criteria would be the successful completion of 10+2 for UG courses and a relevant bachelor's degree for PG courses from a recognised board or university.
