The Institute of Legal Studies, Ranchi University Ranchi, was set up in the year 2019 is one of the constituent college those are focuse solely in legal study. This institute has tremendously risen as a significant centre of legal education located in the capital city of Jharkhand. Recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI), the institute has developed a number of law courses to accommodate the emerging needs of the legal world. 

Institute of Legal Studies has a variety of amenities to cater for the student’s academic and other needs. The library acts as a resource centre for legal information hence offering a variety of legal books, journals and other information resources, to students. The college has also ensured it has good IT systems to support its students following modern technological development in the world where the legal profession is also rapidly embracing technological changes. For those who are in a search of both academic and physical facility there are sports amenities in the institute. Most centrally, the institute has a moot court that is perhaps the most important part since it helps students to practice advocacy often simulated in the absence of actual cases thereby filling the gap between the theories learnt and the actual practice.

The Institute of Legal Studies offers three full-time courses on legal education namely; These include two five years and ends programmes namely; BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons), and post graduate two years LLM programme. Among all the programmes offered with an intake capacity of 120 students, the BA LLB (Hons) is the largest course offered at corpus of NUJS, followed by the BBA LLB (Hons) programme, with an intake capacity of 60 students.
