Meenakshi College for Women (MCW) was set up in the year 1975 and is a leading self-financing women's college recognised under the University of Madras. This linguistic women's college is situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu It has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and also certified by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). MCW is spread over a 5-acre area covering three buildings; it currently imparts 30 courses across 8 degrees for 3261 students. The college has a large faculty strength of 112 members, and therefore a student-to-teacher ratio of 15:1 is provided.
MCW boasts of having quality infrastructure to support the delivery of learning services to its students. The Sri Bharathi Theertha Library, with a building area of 10,000 sq. m, has a collection of 47,000 books, besides online access to more than 50,000 e-books and 1,200 e-journals under INFLIBNET’s N-LIST programme. The technology factor is evident in the college through the Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Computer Centre with 7500 sq. ft of state-of-the-art computing. Any language lover, the Hi-Tech Language Lab station is air-conditioned and can easily accommodate over one hundred students.
It features an array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, most of which are offered on its Nelson Mandela campus. In the academic year 2023, MCW registered 3019 students, of which 2694 were undergrads and 325 were postgraduates. The college grants full-time courses leading to the award of the college diploma in Arts, science and Commerce. Among the sets of courses offered are the B.Com, B.Sc. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and BA History and Economics. Postgraduate courses available at the college are MA, MSc, MCom and MCA.
The admission process followed at Meenakshi College for women students is through merit. For the undergraduate admission, the college takes into consideration the marks in the specific qualifying examination. For the postgraduate programmes, the college may set entrance examinations or consider the graduating marks.
The institution has also fostered excellence in all its achievements and graduated women who have excelled in different professions. The college is also very selective, especially when it comes to the relations between alumnae and the current students. MCW, also with zeal for quality education, good facilities, and an environment for women, still holds its position as one of the best-seeking higher education institutions in Chennai.

The college infrastructure is good. Even though they can make some improvement regarding infrastructure. During rainy days we faced many issues. There should be a much needed a proper improvement regarding restrooms.
