Model Institute of Education and Research was established in 1981 and is one of the pioneer institute situated in Jammu, Jammu and kashmir. This co-educational institutions is situated in a 2 acre area and offers 7 degree programmes for which 17 courses are taught here. MIER has got the status of an affiliated and self-financed college and is approved by AICTE and NCTE. The institute comprises 455 students, 23 number of faculties makes an ideal student-teacher ratio which helps to focus every learner individually. The courses offered at MIER cut across educational, engineering, management and the other courses, in a bid to meet the educational needs of the students within the region.

Model Institute of Education and Research is equipped with numerous facilities that aim at improving the learning outcome of the learners. The backbone of academic resources provided by MIER is a splendid and fully automated library having more than 34000 books from across the reputed publishing houses. The library has also a variety of online resources, and the Institute has subscribed to IEEE Xplore Digital Library, Springer, EBSCOHost, and Tata-McGraw-Hill. Students now have access to 4,000 International journals. In case of candidates doing education courses, there is a separate library with a collection of 18148 books and a seating capacity for reading room is 110. Education technology is well embraced at the institute with world class computing facilities comprised of ultra modern computer laboratories with more than 500 networked computers and high ranking servers. MIER also a has number of sports facilities available a multi-barn sports field basketball and volleyball court indoor games like table tennis, chess, carrom etc. Some of the other facilities available are and WIFI facility, world class laboratories, auditorium, a cafeteria, a spacious parking area, medical facilities, and well furnished girls hostel.

This institution provided 17 courses, mainly affected on full time programmes. The institute offers academic programmes in B.Ed, Bachelor of Engineering (BE) disciplines, MCA, MBA, M.Ed and B.Ed in Special Education.  The institute is oriented at the provision of quality and vocationally relevant knowledge, it can be assumed that graduating students are provided with high rates of success and, correspondingly, job placement.
