One of the most prominent colleges of West Bengal, Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya, Purba Medinipur, was established in the year 1964. Being an affiliated college of Vidyasagar University, this institute provides quality education that meets national standards. It is accredited by NAAC and also maintains the approval of NCTE. The large 5 acres campus area of the college offers a conducive environment for learning. Being a co-educational college, it has a student strength of 3,884 while the faculty count is 112. The college, in order to meet the academic interests of students, promote a wide range of courses in various degree programmes.

Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya has established a variety of amenities so that the students can achieve both personal and academic growth. The college library has a large collection of 30,000 books, references, journals, and e-resources. It uses SOUL 2.0 software and uses resources from UGC N-LIST resources to enhance access for students. To ensure a comfortable stay for out-students, there are separate hostels for boys and girls that have facilities including Wi-Fi, TV, dining hall, and reading room. Other facilities include a gymnasium, a canteen, and guest rooms for visiting faculties or families of students. The college also maintains an active Alumni Association that functions to create a connection between the current and graduated students. 

At present, Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya engages with a variety of subjects to set up a diverse academic portfolio. The college provides 29 courses ranging from undergraduate, post graduate, and diploma level. All the courses offered are full time courses and it includes courses in the field of Arts, Sciences, Commerce, Education, and Mass Media Communication. There is a total of 21 undergraduate courses comprising B.P.Ed, B.Voc in Tourism and Management, and Food Processing, honours courses such as BA in Music, English, Sanskrit, Political Science, and B.Sc in Zoology, Chemistry, Nutrition, and Physics. The college also has 5 post graduate programmes including M.Sc Applied Mathematics with Oceanology and Computer Programming. The diploma programmes are limited to three courses that are Diploma in Computer Application and Information Technology, Tourism and Hotel Management, and  Soil Management by Vermi Composting. 

The admission procedure at Mugberia Gangadhar Mahavidyalaya is straightforward and student friendly. In order to take in only eligible candidates, the college takes into consideration the marks scored in the qualifying exams, i.e., the admission is merit based.
