Verghese Kurien Institute of Dairy and Food Technology, Mannuthy, the constituent college of the University, was established in 1993. Recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), this specialised institute presents a subject specific course in dairy and food technology. Vkied is a Private Institute and it offers admissions for both Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses in the Degree of Bachelor of Technology Food Processing and Technology, Bachelor of Technology Food Processing and Technology, Master of Technology Food Processing and Technology and Master of Technology Food Processing and Technology respectively. As for the B.Tech programmes, admission is done according to the score obtained in the Kerala Engineering Architecture & Medical Examination (KEAM). 

This specific entrance examination is very important to any student perusing a degree in undergraduate studies at the state level. For M.Tech programmes, the institute aquits its own entrance exam and an interview as well. The selection is done depending on the merit level of the candidates. However, one should remember that there is an age constraint regarding the admission into M.Tech programme; 40 years for General candidates and 45 years for SC/ST.
