Vivekananda College, Agastheeswaram, started in the year 1965, is one of the renowned college situated in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. This affiliated college, which has been accepting accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), teaches a wide array of programmes in different fields. The college is a large one and offers education up to college level on a 60-acre land it occupies. It has a population of 1624 students, while 116 of them are faculty. Operating with 25 courses, the institution was established to provide ten degree programmes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The institution also provides several undergraduate programmes; these include a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, English, and Tamil and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and Commerce. MA is offered in Economics, English, and Tamil, M.Sc. in Mathematics and Zoology, M.Com is also offered at postgraduate level.  M.Phil. programmes are offered in Economics and Tamil, while Ph.D. programmes are offered in Tamil and Economics through research activities at the college. In addition, new and progressive B.Voc programmes in value-added aquaculture and Journalism and Mass Communication are also delivered by the college. In the academic year 2019, the college has a total student register of 1,387 in undergraduate programmes and 179 in postgraduate programmes, which clearly indicates its contribution towards enhancement of higher learning in the region.
