The Government College for Arts, Chandigarh, was started in 1951 as a premier institution for the fostering of active artistic talent. Spread over 10 acres in Sector 10 C, the location of the co-educational college is just behind the Government Museum and Art Gallery. It has a total student strength of 337, with a faculty strength of 23, in a wide range of 10 courses under 3 degree programmes.

In the postgraduate section, the college offers Master of Fine Arts (MFA) courses in Sculpture, Applied Art, Painting, and Graphics. There are also unique programmes under this in a Diploma in Fine Arts for Divyang students, as well as in the Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts for Divyang, where both programmes take in 4 students in each intake.
