    The GCN Thiruvananthapuram is established in the 1963 which is located in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, India. This co-educational college is affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences is approved by Indian Nursing Council( INC). The college is located on a 4 acre land and provides a wide career opportunities in nursing with 3 degree courses and 8 courses in specialisation. The institution is a composite of 490 students intake fro all courses and facilitates by a faculty of 36 members: The institution avails a propitious for student learning in health care. The importance which the college pays to its nursing programmes is further evident from its curriculum and infrastructural setup.

    Government College of Nursing, has equipped several functional infrastructures for learning and other activities. A well-stocked library is the knowledge centre of the institution and offers the nurses both the latest and the most comprehensive documents in nursing literature. IT facilities of the institution make it possible for students to have proper knowledge on current advancement in the technological development in health care sector. An infirmary with first aid station is also provided on the campus based on the importance of students’ health. There is also a facility for holding events and seminars in the college and the general atmosphere is one of-learning. There is a cafeteria to feed all those that includes students and the staff and there is provision of sports to encourage students in games and inculcate virtues of team work. For its part, the college has retained basic departmental laboratories vital in skills development as required in the education of the nurses.

The college also affords every student all round students intake of 490 overall course intake ensuring proportional student teacher ratio in order to encourage student based teachings. The programmes featured are B.Sc Nursing, Post B.Sc Nursing, M.Sc Nursing in Medical Surgical, Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, Community Health Nursing and Child Health Nursing and GNM, PBD Nursing.

    In terms of admission process, the Government College of Nursing, Thiruvananthapuram provides a tough admission process through merit list to select a candidate with a high merit. Regarding undergraduate programmes such as B.Sc Nursing, the admissions are offered by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology. The Post Basic B.Sc Nursing programme to appear an entrance examination for the candidates conducted under the Director LBS Centre for Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram. Controller of the entrance examination is incharge of postgraduate admissions for different M.Sc progarmmes. The choice of course in PBD Nursing is given based on marks score in the qualifying exam and skill test as administered by LBS. The college clearly embraces the idea of alumni relations and hence takes great effort at sustaining the Alumni Association whose goal is to continue preparing graduates for their line of duty and affiliating with the college.
