The Government Thoothukudi Medical College is in Thoothukudi Tamil Nadu which was founded in the year 2000. This affiliated college is NMC recognized and encompasses numerous medical disciplines for study. The college boasts of a student capacity of 875 and especially has a strong staff compliment of 225 in its faculty. The institution provide 12 courses that are spread in 4 degree levels offered in Medical field and specifically in fields that include General Medicine, Paediatric Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and General Surgery. Thoothukudi medical college was affiliated to the government it offers medical courses at a Bachelor’s, Master’s and super specialty level. The MBBS programme has an official limit of 150 places admitted in the key conceivable starter course. The college also offers shows in clinical degree and master’s degree in the field like MD, MS General Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, General Surgery, Anaesthesiology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Forensic Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. Additional courses present at this level include super specialties such as DM in Neurology and Gastroenterology. All are full time programmes so that the medical programmes are intense and with concentrated efforts. The total approved intake for all the courses is 205 seats in order to produce skilled medical personnel as the concept demands.

Admission process at Government Thoothukudi Medical College is merit base during admission; they follow the standard admission protocol. The admissions to MBBS programme are done through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Under Graduate (NEET UG). It is conducted by the Deputy Controller of Examination of Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai conducted twice in a year either in February or August usually. Postgraduate admission to MD and MS are done through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduates (NEET-PG). Currently, the college accepts scores of other national level entrance examinations like NEET, NEET PG and NEET SS so that deserving candidates get selected through a territorial system. This competitive admission process keeps off all but the most qualified students, hence retaining the standards of the medical college.
