Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Marine Engineering is a four-year full-time undergraduate course offered by Indian Maritime University, Chennai.

B.Tech.(Marine Engineering) is a residential 4-year undergraduate engineering program that focuses on the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of ships and other marine vessels. This programme is designed in-line with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) for Seafarers. Students who successfully complete this course shall be able to successfully gain employment on-board Indian/ Foreign going Ships as a Marine Engineer.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as mandatory subjects from a recognized board.

Minimum Marks:

60% aggregate marks in PCM
50% marks in English subject in 10+2 examination.

Maximum age:

For Male: General-25 years, OBC (NCL) - 28 years, SC/ST-30 years.
For Female: General-27 years, OBC (NCL) - 30 years, SC/ST-32 years.

*The reference date for calculation of the age will be from the date of commencement of the Academic Session (01.08.2024).

Eligibility - Lateral Entry for admission in 2nd Year

3-years Engineering Diploma in Marine/ Mechanical / Electrical / Electrical & Electronics, from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course.

4 years Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% aggregate marks in the last year of diploma course.

1st year training from the Alternate Training Scheme, approved by D.G. Shipping (This will not be applicable to MERI).

College Infrastructure

The overall infrastructure of Indian Maritime University Kolkata Campus is quiet good , covering 33 acres of land. It has a strong maritime-focused infrastructure with well-equipped laboratories, simulators , workshops, hostel, sports facilities ,gym and a swimming pool that support hand on training and hands-on overall student development; however, some academic blocks and hostels are old and need renovation, and facilities like Wi-Fi, mess, and general maintenance can be inconsistent, making the campus good for practical learning but with room for improvement in residential comfort and upkeep.

College Infrastructure

The facilities of this college is adequate for the wholesale development of a cadet this college provides everything necessary for everyday life and college activities. We have good academic and residential infrastructure that is necessary for our 4 years of college.
