Shiv Shankar Institute of Engineering and Technology was set up in 2004 at Patti in Punjab. This affiliated college, which is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICT E), disseminates a variety of engineering programs. Located in a vast area of 13.43 acres, SSIET has a total strength of students 134, faculty members of 23 in number. There are total 5 courses offered in two degree programs in the institute and it focuses on different fields of engineering. To the knowledge of this writer, ranking data has not be made available, but SSIET aims to contribute to delivering technical education to would-be engineers.

The institute has a number of amenities to encourage students’ learning and development. The library which is a resource centre for learning has 21322 books ; 104 educational national/local and international journals and has the capacity to sit 200 students at a time. The hostels for boys and girls which are available in SSIET are well furnished and offer enough utility spaces such as an activity area, TV lounge, Dining hall etc. The prerequisite facilities which support the campus include well-equipped engineering laboratories such as Electronics, Mechanical, and computers/Computer labs. Sports lovers can have access to different indoor and outdoor games with the professional trainers training the athletes. Transport facilities are also arranged by the institute with 25 Buses having services to and fro all across punjab for the day scholars.

At present, SSIET provides a total of 5 courses out of which there are four B.Tech full time courses and one full time M.Tech course. The B.Tech courses offered are Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. List of M.Tech Programmes offered: Electronics and Communication Engineering. The total approved intake for the all the course is 168 students and the maximum intake allowed for B.Tech CSE is 60.

The admission policy of SSIET is centralized through Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar to which it is affiliated. For B.Tech programmes, the major intakes are through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main conducted at the national level by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
