Shyam Shah Medical College, Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, is one of the oldest medical colleges, established in 1963 and named SSMC. In association with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University Jabalpur, SSMC is recognised by the National Medical Commission or NMC. This college is affiliated with the government, which provides a large number of medical courses in its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. There are 791 students enrolled at SSMC overall, and there are 172 faculty members. There are 24 courses in total, and there are 4 degree programmes. The college has specialisations in general medicine, general surgery, eye surgery, child health, anaesthesia, and others.

Shyam Shah Medical College Rewa has diverse amenities that enhance students’ education and feel a gain. The college comprises a boy’s hostel and a girl’s hostel, fitted with a mess, indoor games, outdoor facilities and internet. Of the many, Rushmore Literary Resource Centre currently boasts to have in its collection more than 17,936 books, out of which are 13,342 textbooks and 4,594 reference books, being housed in a centrally air-conditioned building. There is a health centre, gym, a number of sports grounds, a computer laboratory, a canteen, a hall for performances, and spacious, equipped labs. Also, rooms are provided for the guests, like visiting faculty and students’ families, which helps to innovate the campuses.

Medical courses are available in the college at the undergraduate level in MBBS and at the postgraduate level in various MD and MS degrees. MBBS is the prominent programme of SSMC Rewa, which has an entry capacity of 150 students each year. The institution also offers postgraduate training programmes, for instance, MS General Surgery, MD General Medicine, MS Ophthalmology, MD Paediatrics, etc. All graduate courses are offered full-time, and the duration of the programme takes between 3 to 6 years. All classes, the approved intake of SSMC Rewa is 791; thus, the institution’s role in enhancing medical education in the area cannot be overemphasised.

Admission in SSMC Rewa follows on the basis of the national level entrance examination. For the MBBS programme, revision in admission through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) of the Central Govt. NEET PG scores determines the admissions for MD and MS courses at the postgraduate level. Unfortunately for the other candidates, the process does not end here, and the college conducts a counselling process in order to finalise the admission process. As for the individual scholarships, the information is lacking; nevertheless, the college may provide different governmental scholarships for students in need. Many of our students who have graduated from SSMC Rewa have gone to serve the healthcare sector at large in India, having produced many medical specialists.
