Tirunelveli Medical College, Tirunelveli, also known as TVMC, was founded in 1965. This affiliated college is in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, and is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). TVMC has diverse medical programmes with 47 courses to offer across 7 degree levels. The college expanded its total student enrolment to a total of 1,424, including faculties and staff of 259. An important attribute of a co-educational school is that the percentage of male and female students is almost equal—47% males and 53% females, respectively. The college is a well-established college that provides medical education along with proper training.
TVMC offers appropriate facilities needed in the development of students’ education and character. The campus has separate hostels for boys and girls, and each can house 350 students. Boys’ hostel was built in 1970 with two building units: House of Lords and House of Princes. The girls' hostel, founded in 1974, consists of three buildings: House of Angels, Palace of Princess, and House of Junior Angels. The college also has a library facility with internet connection, a sports facility, and a computerised IT facility. A cafeteria is provided for serving meals at set times; there is an auditorium for events such as seminars. Comprising a range of physicians, the medical centre takes care of the health of students and other members of the staff.
The 47 courses that students can study at the college are MBBS, several MD and MS courses, DM, and M.Ch., among others. The main programme is MBBS, and this is a college that has been approved to take 250 students per year. Some of the other specialisations with the intakes are MD General Medicine – 21 seats), MS General Surgery (20 seats), and MD Paediatrics – 13 seats). TVMC is also approved for super-speciality courses like DM Neurology, DM Cardiology, & M.Ch Urology, both with two seats each. Personally, the college offers B.Sc. programmes in medical technologies such as Medical Laboratory Technology, cardiac care technology, and Respiratory Care Technology; each of these programmes has 20 enrolment capacity.

TVMC has its own cutoff list, with preference given to extra-ordinary results obtained by the candidates in the national-level entrance test. The eligibility of the candidate for the MBBS programme is based on the NEET-UG for the current academic year 2019. NEET PG for postgraduate admissions for MD & MS courses and NEET-SS for DM/M.Ch. superspeciality courses. The college has set a rule in selecting the students where they recruit the most competent students with a consideration of the government standards regarding reservation.
