    Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh Facilities

    Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh offers enough facilities and infrastructure. CIBS Leh facilities such as computer labs and a library with a wide selection of books are available for both students and employees. CIBS Leh cafeteria serves hygienic food to the staff, students and faculty members at affordable prices. 

    Additional CIBS Leh Facilities include both indoor and outdoor recreational facilities as well as a seminar hall. Additional facilities offered by the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies include internet access, distinct common areas, and more.

    • Library

      The University has a Library Building of the Institute named Sherab Gyasched Tsal was consecrated by H.H. 14th Dalai Lama in 2007. The Library is a vital organ of the Institute not only for the students and teachers of the Institute but also for the researchers of the country and the world. It has been performing an important role in promoting intellectual and cultural values of Buddhist heritage to a vast range of users since its inception. The Library is governed by a Library Committee consisting of five members of which the Director is the Chairman and the Librarian is the Member Secretary. It is one of the biggest libraries in the entire Himalayan region to disseminate knowledge in Buddhist studies, Tibetology, and Buddhist Philosophy. A large number of Indian, as well as foreign researchers and tourists, visit the Institute’s Library every year. The library has two sections, the Sungbum Section for Pothis and books on Buddhism in the Bhoti language and the General section for books in Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Pali, and Urdu languages on various subjects. The library has a collection of more than 32,000 books in the General Section on Religion, History, Philosophy, Literature, Language, Polity, Sociology, Sports, Computers, Tibetan Medicine, etc. while in the Sungbum Section, this number is about 90,000, as Pothis (Spechas) comprises of three or four texts in one Pothi. One set of bKa-gyur (108 volumes) written with golden ink to an approximate value of Rs. 70 lakhs published in Taiwan was donated by H.H. Digung Skyabgon Tsestang Rinpoche to the Institute’s Library. The Library caters to the reading and reference needs of at least 800 students, 200 staff members, and many more casual readers and library users such as tourists and research scholars from other parts of India and abroad. The library has been computerized by installing Slim Thumi Software. The library applies the Colon Classification system devised by S.R. Ranganathan for classification and AACR (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules) for the cataloging of books. The library has a large collection of Indian as well as Foreign Reference books comprising Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries, Almanacs, Year Books, etc. The Library subscribes to 14 foreign and 30 Indian research journals/periodicals, 25 magazines, and 12 newspapers in different languages.

      The University has excellent IT Infrastructure facilities for the students.

    • Auditorium

      The University has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.

    • Boys Hostel

      The University has three hostels named after famous Buddhist scholars with a capacity of 100 seats each for monks, boys, and nuns respectively for the students of remote and far-flung areas of the region. These hostels are run under the supervision of Hostel Wardens appointed by the Institute for three years. The Institute also provides cooks, bearers, utensils, and cooking gas cylinders for the hostels.

    • Girls Hostel

      The University has three hostels named after famous Buddhist scholars with a capacity of 100 seats each for monks, and girls-nuns respectively for the students of remote and far-flung areas of the region. These hostels are run under the supervision of Hostel Wardens appointed by the Institute for three years. The Institute also provides cooks, bearers, utensils, and cooking gas cylinders for the hostels.

    • Sports

      The University has a Sports facility for all students.

    • Cafeteria

      The University has a canteen facility for staff and students.

    • Medical/Hospital

      The University has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.

    • Alumni Associations

      The University Alumni Association of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (Deemed to be University) is working to promote and foster good relationships between alumni members and the institute through constructive engagement in the development of the institution. The institute also considers its alumni working in organizations across the world as an integral part of its community.

    • Training and Placement Cell

      The Motive of the placement cell is to act as a facilitator to arrange campus visits and coordinate the recruitment process of the prospective employers of graduating students of the college.

      The college has a transport facility for the students.
