Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Katra was inaugurated in 2004 and has been granted statutory recognition through an act of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has initiated many SMVDU Scholarships. Scholarship programmes for bachelor's, master's and doctorate programmes are offered to ensure that meritorious students can fulfill their dream of achieving education in their desired course. Scholarships at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University also help at promoting a healthy work culture and sparking a competitive spirit among students. Student Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme (SMMSS) is one of the main SMVDU Katra Scholarship schemes, the beneficiaries of which can avail tuition and hostel fee waivers from 10% to 100%. Special scholarship scheme, SMVDU scholarship for meritorious girl students, and assistantship for masters and Ph. D students are also provided at SMVDU with the necessary specifications for availing them.

The candidate must appear for the CAT/MAT/CMAT examinations and secure a valid score.
