Dr BR Ambedkar University Hyderabad was inaugurated by the former President of India, the Late Sri Gyani Zail Singh. Dr BR Ambedkar University Hyderabad was formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Open University. Later on in the year 1991, the Government of Andhra Pradesh renamed the institute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University Hyderabad.
