National Institute of Siddha (NIS) was inaugurated on September 3, 2005 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. National Institute of Siddha Chennai was established by the combined cooperation of the Central and State Governments. The college campus is spread over 15 acres with a faculty of 59 members.
NIS Chennai is affiliated with Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University Chennai. The initial capital cost was shared by the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Government of India in the ratio of 40:60. NIS Chennai Syllabus and Curriculum are based on the Central Council of Indian Medicine New Delhi.
NIS Chennai offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in the Siddha system of medicine. NIS Chennai courses include BSMS, MD and PhD respectively. NIS Chennai MD courses are available in Siddha Gunapadam, Siddha Noi Nadal, Siddha Kuzhandhai Maruthuvam, Siddha Nanju Maruthuvam, Siddha Maruthuvam, Siddha Pura Maruthuva, Siddhar Yoga Maruthuvam and MD Siddha Varma Maruthuvam.
