All the best!
Both nautical science and marine engineering both have same possible potential of growth.
if you are just thinking that nautical science mean just captain n engineer mean chief engineer than it not just end. there is alot more than that especially in marine field. either engineer or nautical both can be what ever they want to be in marine.
ex : lawyer,settlement ,DPA,technical supritendent,cso etc etc .
these are just few post above the just chief engineer but again you want more then you have to go for more higher management level like management in marketing than there is option of baltic exchange or same like other exchange who Decide the frieght rate of dry bulk cargo. similarly in for wet bulk baltic indices. there is also option for become the IMO chief seceretory . but above all before having all these u have to sacrifice the time and patience to gain experiences becoz all these position can be get by only experience.
All the best for your future
In order to become a Marine Engineer, all you need is a minimum educational qualification of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Even if you have completed a three year diploma in marine engineering, you can apply for UG course in marine engineering. Your age limit should be 17-25 years. The length of the graduate course of engineering may vary slightly in some countries, but in general it is 4 years, wherein the student undergoes comprehensive training in both theoretical as well as practical aspects of the science.
Hope this helps!
Yes. It Depends on rank, nationality and company.
In general, higher the rank, lower the contract period.
Crew may have a contract duration of 7 to 9 months. Junior officer's, 6 to 8 months. Senior officer's 4 to 6 months.
So you can visit your family and head for vacation at the end of your contract tenure.
Apart from this, some companies allow some officer's to have their spouse and children onboard
