Academics
I'm studying B.Sc Psychology, because I found the subject to be very interesting, and I chose Women's Christian College, Chennai is because of its legacy in teaching Psychology very well. The faculty of the psychology self-financed batch is very efficient and understanding as teachers, and they give career-focused training here. They also provide us with a lot of opportunities like certificate courses, seminars, etc. The quality of teaching varies from department to department. For Psychology self-financed, I'd give 4.5 stars.
From my experience, I'd say the curriculum here is well updated and the teachers are working efficiently to provide us with a lot of information. Once again, Yes! It makes you job-ready, especially if you make use of your opportunities wisely.
College Infra
Infrastructure: It's a vast campus, filled with lush greenery and a remarkably peaceful atmosphere. The campus is filled with nature, and it has Moth Day, celebrated on campus because many different moths are spotted. There are good facilities, of a projector, electricity, lift, etc. There are more than 4 auditoriums on the campus, which are quite spacious, and a few of them are completely air-conditioned too.
Facilities: The classrooms are pretty big and can accommodate around 60-70 students at a time, but this also depends on which block the classroom is in. There are maintained laboratories and libraries. The library is huge and has a lot of informative books that students can borrow for a week. There is a basketball court, a tennis court, and a ground. About the hostel environment, it is quite spacious, but the students have a lot of restrictions on using Iron boxes, Induction stoves, etc. The hostelers find it difficult to get permission from the warden to hang out at college. WiFi is provided for the staff, and projectors are used by faculty to teach with PPT. They are also useful for students during presentations.
Living spaces: The classrooms are not that clean since they are not cleaned or swept regularly. You could see a bunch of hair in the corner of the classroom. This college has a rule- students must not eat inside classrooms. The washrooms are also not that clean; only a few are clean. The food provided in the main canteen is pretty good, has a fruit juice shop, and the Hannah aunty's brownie is quite famous. The other canteen has packaged foods and snack items. But it's quite expensive at times.
Campus Life
The campus is the best. So spacious and nature filled. Students get to engage in a lot of opportunities, that is one plus point because here the opportunities will always be overflowing! Be it cultural or academic based ones!
The Psychology staffs are quite friendly, the staffs behavior differs form department to department. The location is very safe, even though its a busy area its safe. There is a medical attention room called "apollo shice is located in campus". Also the apollo hospital is very nearby to college. There is a committee solely created Against ragging which includes dean, other faculties and area police officer.
Placements
The placements are good, and the students are also made career-ready with a special class, "Learning and Training".Not everyone gets placed since the number of vacancies also plays a role. Psychology does not have placements.
Value For Money
The fees cost around 80-90k per year. Approx 40-45k per semester. But the fees differs in each department. I don't think that we are getting the money's worth because the separate books for subjects must be bought by us. For example, for the language subject the fees must paid separately to receive book. But the teaching is quite good in psychology's case. We only receive soft copies from our teachers and we are supposed to take print out of the required units.
