Admission to NIT Surathkal's MCA program is based on performance in a mandatory entrance examination called NIMCET (National Institute of Technology MCA Entrance Examination). NIMCET is the NIT MCA Common Entrance Examination, a national-level exam administered by NIT for admission to the MCA program. The eligibility criteria for the MCA program are a bachelor’s degree in the relevant stream and a minimum CGPA of 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system and students who have scored a minimum of 60% in their aggregate score for all subjects in a public university exam.SC/ST candidates will get a relaxation of 5% in their aggregate.

These scholarships are awarded to students whose annual family income is less than 4.5 lakhs per year. The scholarships are given based on their marks in the 10+2 exam which should be a minimum of 70%. The students who get the scholarship are given Rs.2000 per month as scholarship award. The merit scholarship of Rs. 10,000 every year is given to 5 students based on their scores in the JEE mains exam.

In addition, applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements. These are bachelor's degree with 50% marks or 5.5 CGPA or 45% or 5 CGPA for SC/ST candidates. Selected candidates will also be invited for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) by NIT Surathkal. Preference will be given to those with work experience.

NIT Surathkal (NITK) Admission Process 2026

The Eighth Finance Commission in its meeting held on 20 January 2011, recommended establishing NIPER, Madurai, Tamil Nadu and for which, the TN Govt has already allocated 116 acres of land near Thirumohur at Madurai.^[2]^[3] Even after this, the project has been non-starter till now.^[4] various request has been raised by various Members of the Parliament Representing Madurai Constituency over years to set up the NIPER, Madurai campus but still the project hasn't started. The courses planned for Madurai Niper includes Pharma Informatics, Pharmaceutics Biotechnology and Pharmacology, and Toxicology and Biotechnology.^[5] At present a case has been filed at Madurai Bench of Madras High court in 2022 for setting up the NIPER, Madurai.^[6]

In February 2015, Arun Jaitley, the Minister of Finance, announced three new NIPERs, in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.^[7] In March 2015 Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, announced that the Maharashtra location will be in Nagpur.^[8] In November 2015, Ananth Kumar, the then Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, announced that the location of the Rajasthan institute will be in Jhalawar.^[9] In July 2016, Kumar verified the plans for Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, and in the next financial year he mentioned plans for NIPERs in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.^[10] Contrary to a previous announcement made in January 2016^[11] a NIPER was not planned in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.^[10] As of November 2018, the plans for NIPER Nagpur are still on paper only.^[12]

In April 2016, the Government of Odisha requested that a NIPER in Bhubaneswar, Odisha be considered.^[13]

In June 2019 D. V. Sadananda Gowda, the Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, informed the parliament that they had no plan to open new NIPERs in the coming years. He also informed that the ministry has dropped the idea of setting up 3 new NIPERs in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.^[14]

National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, S.A.S. Nagar (NIPER S.A.S. Nagar), also known as NIPER Mohali, is the Topmost Pharmaceutical research institute in India & the main campus of the group of seven NIPER institutes, under India's Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The institute offers Masters and Doctoral degrees in pharmaceutical sciences. As an Institute of National Importance it plays an important role in the Human Resource Development for the ever-growing Indian Pharmaceutical industry, which has been at the forefront of India's science based industries with wide-ranging capabilities in this important field of drug manufacture.^[1]^[2] The institute offers a 2-year PG degree & 4-5 year PhD Courses in 13 disciplines;

Academics

Classrooms and departments are very good. All labs have latest equipments. Faculty is one of the best in India. There are 2 huge libraries in the campus. There are a lot of labs for student work as well outside of academics.

College Infra

College does have all the required infrastructure, good classrooms, good department buildings, good hostels along with sports complex, a supermarket, many canteens, swimming pool, gym, outdoor sports courts, amphitheatre etc.,

Campus Life

Campus life is great. Club culture is amazing both technical and cultural. Night life is pretty good. There are 2 fests every year - one technical fest in October and one cultural fest in March. All fests and clubs are run by students.

Placements

Placement and internship opportunities are great. Companies come for all fields - hardware, software, core and business. Corporate, startups, government and research opportunities are available both on and off campus.

Value For Money

Definitely great value for money. 62500 INR per semester for tution fees which is extremely less compared to other engineering colleges. Around 30000 to 35000 per semester for hostel fees which includes mess food as well as campus amenities and rent.

CSE academics include programming, operating systems and AI topics. Faculty use industry tools and encourage coding practise and real projects. Regular seminars help us to stay updated with tech trends.

College Infra

Nit surathkal campus is large and science with well equipped computing labs,workshops, and research centres . Classroom are modern and wi-Fi covers the campus . Hostels and common facilities support student life well.

Placements

Placements for CSE are very good, with many graduated placed in top companies . Highest and average salary packages are strong. Recruiters include domestic and global tech firms ,offering software and data roles

Academics

Professors are well qualified. The teaching is not that good I would say. Curriculum is relevant with the existing trend and also it makes students industry ready. Semester exams are decent not too hard or easy even. Pass percentage varies from 20% marks to 30% marks. There is a relative grading system in NIT Surathkal. Semester can be balanced with other activities

College Infra

There are enough buildings for classrooms. Wifi is available through out campus through captive portal login. Two libraries with air-conditioners are available. There are 3 grounds Two sports complexes which are too good. 12 boys hostels and 5 girls' hostel are available. Mess food is decent. We get boy veg and non-veg mess. 3 night canteens are available which serve midnights. There is a food court too. We also get a private beach. Campus has a well connection of road (NH66) which runs between the campus splitting it in two. There are guest houses available. Overall very good infrastructure.

Campus Life

In our college every year they are many events that are being organised like one of the main event is incident which is an big one it runs for 4 days where many celebrities come perform on the stage and this are held in the month of march there are many range of accessibility of books available.Various types of sports are played and there are many sports events that are organised by the college where students can showcase the skills.

Placements

Placements here are good. From 2019-2023 there was almost 99% placement in IT department and in 2024 about 91% students were placed in IT department. Highest salary varies from 55-62 LPA, average about 24 LPA and median about 21 LPA. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Morgan Stanley, Dell etc. are major recruiters. Most of roles offered are developer. Around 30-40% students get internships.

Value For Money

This fees is around 232800 per year. I feel it's worth around 1.5Lakhs per year since professors don't teach that good. But yes infrastructure and all with beach adds the value.
