College does have all the required infrastructure, good classrooms, good department buildings, good hostels along with sports complex, a supermarket, many canteens, swimming pool, gym, outdoor sports courts, amphitheatre etc.,
Classrooms and departments are very good. All labs have latest equipments. Faculty is one of the best in India. There are 2 huge libraries in the campus. There are a lot of labs for student work as well outside of academics.
Placement and internship opportunities are great. Companies come for all fields - hardware, software, core and business. Corporate, startups, government and research opportunities are available both on and off campus.
Definitely great value for money. 62500 INR per semester for tution fees which is extremely less compared to other engineering colleges. Around 30000 to 35000 per semester for hostel fees which includes mess food as well as campus amenities and rent.
Campus life is great. Club culture is amazing both technical and cultural. Night life is pretty good. There are 2 fests every year - one technical fest in October and one cultural fest in March. All fests and clubs are run by students.
Nit surathkal campus is large and science with well equipped computing labs, workshops, and research centres . Classroom are modern and wi-Fi covers the campus . Hostels and common facilities support student life well.
CSE academics include programming, operating systems and AI topics. Faculty use industry tools and encourage coding practise and real projects. Regular seminars help us to stay updated with tech trends.
Placements for CSE are very good, with many graduated placed in top companies . Highest and average salary packages are strong. Recruiters include domestic and global tech firms ,offering software and data roles
There are enough buildings for classrooms. Wifi is available through out campus through captive portal login. Two libraries with air-conditioners are available. There are 3 grounds Two sports complexes which are too good. 12 boys hostels and 5 girls' hostel are available. Mess food is decent. We get boy veg and non-veg mess. 3 night canteens are available which serve midnights. There is a food court too. We also get a private beach. Campus has a well connection of road (NH66) which runs between the campus splitting it in two. There are guest houses available. Overall very good infrastructure.
Professors are well qualified. The teaching is not that good I would say. Curriculum is relevant with the existing trend and also it makes students industry ready. Semester exams are decent not too hard or easy even. Pass percentage varies from 20% marks to 30% marks. There is a relative grading system in NIT Surathkal. Semester can be balanced with other activities
Placements here are good. From 2019-2023 there was almost 99% placement in IT department and in 2024 about 91% students were placed in IT department. Highest salary varies from 55-62 LPA, average about 24 LPA and median about 21 LPA. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Morgan Stanley, Dell etc. are major recruiters. Most of roles offered are developer. Around 30-40% students get internships.
This fees is around 232800 per year. I feel it's worth around 1.5Lakhs per year since professors don't teach that good. But yes infrastructure and all with beach adds the value.
In our college every year they are many events that are being organised like one of the main event is incident which is an big one it runs for 4 days where many celebrities come perform on the stage and this are held in the month of march there are many range of accessibility of books available.Various types of sports are played and there are many sports events that are organised by the college where students can showcase the skills.
NITK Surathkal boasts an excellent campus located by the beach, providing a unique and scenic learning environment. The institute has modern classrooms, well-maintained hostels, and state-of-the-art labs for various departments. The Central Library is vast and equipped with digital resources. Wi-Fi is available across the campus, and there are several cafeterias and canteens offering good food. Sports facilities, including a gym, stadium, and courts, are impressive and regularly used by students. The greenery and cleanliness across the campus make it even more attractive and conducive to student life.
The academic curriculum at NITK Surathkal is rigorous and well-structured, with a strong focus on both theoretical understanding and practical application. Professors are highly qualified and approachable, often encouraging research and project-based learning. The course content is regularly updated to meet industry standards. There are frequent quizzes, assignments, and mid-semester evaluations that keep students engaged throughout the semester. The credit system allows for some flexibility in choosing electives. While the workload can be heavy at times, it effectively prepares students for competitive exams and placements.
NITK Surathkal has a strong and consistent placement track record, with a majority of students securing jobs in high-profile companies. The Training and Placement Office (TPO) actively engages with top-tier recruiters across sectors such as IT, consulting, core engineering, analytics, and finance. The summer internship cell also brings diverse opportunities, ensuring pre-final year exposure to industry projects. Average salary packages are competitive, and top performers often receive lucrative offers from marquee firms like Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, and L&T. Regular placement preparation workshops, mentorship from seniors, and mock interviews further boost students’ readiness. Though some niche branches may see slightly fewer opportunities compared to CSE/ECE, the overall ecosystem enables a broad range of career paths.
NITK Surathkal offers excellent value for money considering its government fee structure and the quality of education, infrastructure, and placement outcomes. The annual tuition fees are reasonable, especially for students from reserved categories or those availing scholarships like NSP or Pragati. In return, students get access to top-notch labs, highly qualified faculty, a beautiful beachside campus, and strong placement support. Hostel and mess fees are affordable too. The return on investment (ROI) is impressive—many students secure packages far exceeding the total cost of their education. Overall, it is a great choice for students seeking a balance of affordability and excellence.
Campus life at NITK Surathkal is vibrant, diverse, and unforgettable. With students from across India, there's a rich blend of cultures and languages. The campus itself is scenic, featuring its own private beach, which becomes a popular hangout spot for students. Numerous clubs and student-run bodies exist for coding, robotics, dance, drama, music, entrepreneurship, and more—ensuring that there's something for everyone. Annual fests like Incident (cultural fest) and Engineer (technical fest) are major highlights, drawing participation from colleges across the country. Sports facilities are excellent, and there are frequent tournaments and competitions. Hostel life is active, and there's always something happening—be it late-night discussions, LAN gaming, or hostel-level events. The freedom and community spirit on campus truly make life at NITK memorable.
The faculty at NITK is knowledgeable and experienced, many holding PhDs from reputed institutes. Professors are approachable and often supportive of research and project initiatives. Some courses are theory-heavy, but many professors incorporate real-world examples, especially in senior years.
Im a First Year Student at NIT Surathkal persuing Metallurgy and Materials Engineering and the infrastructure is great other than their sports complex is not so good, all of the sports facilities are cramped in one place
I'm studying Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at NITK for its blend of science and engineering. Teaching quality is generally good, with experienced faculty and decent labs. The curriculum is solid but could be more industry-aligned. Campus life is vibrant, and placement support is strong, especially for core and tech roles.
The teaching is good, with knowledgeable faculty and well-equipped labs. While the curriculum is solid, it needs better industry alignment. NITK offers a vibrant campus life and strong placement support, especially in core and tech-related fields.
Classrooms and sports centres are great. Infrastructure available on need basis. Wi-Fi is great but not available at good speeds at some hostels. There is CIDS and CRF that are having many projects. There are two libraries one of which is open upto 12 midnight on normal days.
Curriculum is decent. Teaching in my department is also good. Curriculum can be updated with more industry relevant courses. As well as some licensed softwares can be used for training the students to be ready for the Industry.
Placements and internships opportunities are good in my branch through the campus recruitments. Placement cell is decent was much better earlier. But because of NITK brand value companies come and recruit students.
Gate qualified students have good value for money.
There is a beach in campus. Big campus. Food is okayish. Overall it is very good.
The college had a big name already and it lived by it. It provided a campus considering the comfort of the students incorporating all the necessary facilities like the labs for the science and libraries.
The academic curriculum followed here was strictly up to dated according to the recent changes. Business world has been evolving ever since and the time I did was tech adopting world and college did it brilliantly.
The placement scenario of the college is also very good. The placement office considers students as assets and not some responsibilities and take the placement seriously and bring in the companies accordingly.
Could be better. Hostels are old. Cleanliness could be improved. People are nice. Staff is decent. They try to do their best but they struggle to accomplish the same. No hot water. Lot of bee hives and I've been bit multiple times. Food is nice.
I studied electrical and electronics engineering. The teachers are very good. Professor Prajof is very educated and dedicated to teaching. They have updated curriculum to include machine learning and artificial intelligence.
2024 was a bad year for placements based on previous average. Good companies still showed up but a lot of the companies didn't show up. Placement percentage in my class was 80 percent. Highest salary went to electrical and electronics engineering.
Good value for money. I'm happy with the overall experience of my college life. I've been placed in a good company so I'm happy. The course cost me about 2 lakh per year. And the teachers were good enough.
Campus life was good. I made very good friends and there were lot of events conducted regularly. They had both academic and extra curricular activities. We had super fun in all the events. We even had a beach, so no real complaints.
The course is divided into six trimesters , with three trimesters in each year . The evaluation is based on two components : 50 marks for internal components comprising assignments and presentations , and 50 marks for the end of the semester exam .
The faculty members are very supportive and understanding . They try their best to make the learning process easy and fun with real life examples . The syllabus is relevant , but a little modification will be better .
The placements for b tech are decent . For the previous batch , the highest package was 13 lakhs per annum , the average was 7 lakhs per annum , and the lowest package offered was 4 lakhs per annum .
The EEE department is located on the western side of the campus which is on the other side of NH 66. We have a 24*7 WiFi facility. But the Wi-Fi in the hostels is a bit lower in speed. There are two libraries including a central library and a digital library which are quite good. There is a canteen inside the campus named the food court. There is also a health care facility next to the ground.
Even though the Teachers are highly qualified, we have to rely mainly on self study. The course curriculum is advanced and makes the students knowledgeable. There are many Clubs which will help you gain world life experiences. There are clubs for everyone taste and passion.
About 98 percent of the students got placed from our course, with average salaries ranging from 8 LPA to 34 LPA. Big companies like Texas Instruments, Nvidia, ARM, and Samsung Semiconductor India to name a few are the top recruiting companies for our course. About 30 percent including M. Teach students secured internship in these companies. Most of them were hire as Hardware or Digital Design Engineers.
Superb college.
