National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya offers admissions to B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc and PhD. NIT Meghalaya admission to B.Tech programmes is based on candidates' JEE Main scores and joint seat allocations made by JoSSA/CSAB. Admissions to NIT Meghalaya M.Tech programmes are offered based on a valid GATE score, followed by CCMT counselling.

NIT Meghalaya is a newer NIT as compared to most of the other NITs. It was established in 2010, in Shillong. Students often complain about its not-so-good infrastructure and location/transport problem because of the current temporary campus. However, its permanent campus is under development in Cherrapunji.
